Job interviews are something that we all have to face at one point in our lives, and whether it’s your first or thirtieth job interview, they never cease to be a daunting and nerve-wracking prospect. So, here is my advices to you on nailing that interview to get the job you want at the company you want to work for.
Be on time!
Punctuality is key. Turn up to your interview around ten minutes before. Turning up too early may show that you’re keen but you will be waiting around for a long time if you interviewer has a tight schedule to adhere to (and, obviously, turning up too late is just not a good idea at all!).
Ten minutes is the perfect amount of time to get yourself settled and ready for whatever questions they may fire at you.
Dress code… yes, it counts!
First impressions are everything. Looking smart is fundamental to create the right impression to a prospective employer. The image you give off in your interview will reflect how professional you are and, ultimately, the image that you could potentially portray for the company.
Be prepared and have self-confidence!
Know about your interviewers, know about the job description and know about the company!
Have a look at the company’s website for clues about their values and what they are looking for in a candidate. Re-read the job description so that you can apply your experience specifically to what the job entails. Before your interview, make a list of personal qualities you have that make you good for the role and call on these when you are asked tricky questions.
Finally, make sure that you know your CV inside out; even though you surely know about your own life and what you’ve done, the easiest questions can sometimes trip you up under pressure!
Just be confident and be yourself! 🙂
